Your last night on a cruise: what to pack and check

By Cruise.do · Updated

The short answer

Before your final evening out, settle your luggage plan, review your account and set aside everything needed until you reach home or your next hotel. The easiest item to forget is often tomorrow’s clothing, packed inside a bag already collected.

Make one bag untouchable

If you use the ship's luggage service, keep a small departure bag separate from the cases going into the corridor. Royal Caribbean specifically tells guests to retain travel documents and valuables. Add morning clothes, shoes, regular medication, chargers and toiletries you will still need.

Put this bag on a chair while packing. That physical separation is more dependable than hoping everyone remembers which suitcase is leaving the cabin.

Read the bill before the queue grows

Look through the onboard account while you have time to query an unfamiliar charge. Match purchases with receipts and check whether promised credits have appeared. Ask about the distinction between a temporary card authorisation and the final charge if the amounts seem confusing.

Do not assume a restaurant cancellation or returned item has already reached the statement. Keep the confirmation until the correction appears, and save the final account record for your own reference.

Confirm the route off the ship

Read your departure group, meeting place, luggage instructions and breakfast options. Tell the whole party where to meet if you become separated. If assistance is required, confirm the arrangement with staff before the morning rush.

Send your driver the correct terminal and agreed meeting point when you have them. An airport transfer booked weeks ago may still need a final pickup confirmation. Use the ship's instructions for when to leave the cabin.

Do a slow sweep before bed

Check the safe, drawers, bathroom hooks, balcony and charging sockets. Lay out tomorrow's clothes and set an alarm that will work with the ship's time arrangement. Charge your phone while you still have easy access to power.

Before walking out in the morning, repeat the safe and passport check. Finish with the children's beds and under the desk. Small headphones, jewellery and charging leads are easier to overlook than a suitcase standing by the door.
