MSC World America vs Icon of the Seas: a family comparison

By Cruise.do · Updated

The short answer

Start with your children’s ages, the cabin layout and the exact sailing route. MSC World America’s Family Aventura and Icon’s Surfside give you different places to investigate. Neither a bigger attraction list nor a lower advertised fare decides which trip will work better for your family.

Compare the places you would use every day

MSC’s ship page identifies Family Aventura and The Harbour, indoor and outdoor promenades, and an adults-only Zen Area. Royal Caribbean’s Surfside guide groups a family pool, splash areas, a carousel, play space and dining in one neighbourhood.

Use the deck plans to trace an ordinary morning: room, breakfast, children’s activity and somewhere for the adults to sit. A facility is more useful when your family can reach it comfortably and use it together.

Choose by age and eligibility

For younger children, examine splash-area rules, changing arrangements and nearby food. For older children, list the two or three activities they genuinely want. Confirm height, age and supervision requirements with the operator before treating a photograph as a promise they can participate.

If one child can use an attraction and another cannot, plan how the adults will split up. A family holiday becomes harder to organise when every favourite activity requires a different group. The useful comparison is how your own party will spend the day.

Compare cabins beyond the word balcony

Check bed arrangement, privacy, storage and the space available when all beds are made up. Verify the balcony’s outlook and position from the actual category and cabin number. A broad cabin label does not establish that the two quotes offer equivalent space or views.

Map the route from the cabin to lifts and your likely evening venues. Decide whether you value proximity, a quieter location or a specific layout enough to pay the difference. Do not rank either whole ship as quieter from the deck plan alone.

Price two complete holidays

Choose departures you could realistically take and write down each port and time ashore. This is a ship-planning comparison, not a verified pair of identical dated itineraries. If the routes differ, give the port you most want to visit its proper weight.

Add transport, hotel nights, service charges, internet, drinks and activities your family expects to buy. Check which meals and experiences are included in each selected fare. A paid upgrade on one line should not be silently counted as included on the other.

Choose the trip whose confirmed rooms, route and activities fit the budget. If you cannot yet establish an important child-eligibility rule or cabin detail, resolve that before paying, even when the headline fare looks attractive.
