Roatan ports: Mahogany Bay, Isla Tropicale and Coxen Hole

By Cruise.do · Updated

The short answer

Do not treat Roatan’s cruise ports as interchangeable. The former Mahogany Bay operator website now uses Isla Tropicale branding for the Dixon Cove port. The Port of Roatan at Coxen Hole is a separate arrival point. Confirm which one your sailing uses.

Why two names may appear for the same port

The former mahoganybayport.com site redirects to Isla Tropicale’s current operator website, which identifies its location as Dixon Cove. Older reviews and some booking conversations may still use Mahogany Bay.

Match the physical location as well as the name. If your cruise documents and a tour operator use different wording, ask them to confirm they mean the same pickup point rather than assuming one document is wrong.

Coxen Hole needs its own pickup plan

The separate Port of Roatan Town Center website provides its own maps and visitor information. Give an independent operator your ship, date and port, then request exact meeting instructions.

Some pickups require a walk to a designated area rather than meeting at the gangway. Ask about that distance and the surface if anyone in the group needs an easier route. A generic instruction to meet outside the port is insufficient.

Do not transfer a beach plan from one port to the other

A beach associated with one cruise complex should not be assumed to be a walk-off facility for passengers arriving elsewhere. Check access, eligibility, transport and charges before choosing it from an old port guide.

For an island beach outing, compare the total journey and what the booking includes: transport, entry, chairs, food and the return time. Two similarly named packages may provide quite different amounts of actual beach time.

Keep the day resilient to a berth change

Save the operator's contact details and ask what happens if your ship changes berth or cannot call. Keep the written cancellation terms. If the pickup changes, get a new meeting point that everyone in the group can identify.

A simple port-area day and a guided island outing are both valid choices. Select the one that fits the confirmed arrival location and your interests, rather than letting outdated branding send you to the wrong side of the island.
