Boarding and life onboard
Cruise check-in time vs boarding time: what each means
The short answer
Online check-in is paperwork. Your arrival slot tells you when to reach the terminal. Boarding begins when the ship and terminal are ready, while the final boarding deadline is the latest permitted arrival. These are different times.

Save the online check-in opening date, the terminal appointment and the final boarding deadline in separate calendar entries. Royal Caribbean provides check-in through its app, but use the date shown for your reservation rather than a countdown quoted in an old forum post.
If someone else booked the trip, get access to the reservation before check-in opens. Finding a booking number at the last minute is avoidable work.
An early slot does not buy extra guarantees
Royal Caribbean directs guests to their chosen arrival window. Reaching the building much earlier can mean waiting outside or being asked to return. An appointment also does not guarantee the moment you step onto the ship.
Choose a slot your whole party can meet. A later appointment that fits your flight or hotel checkout is more useful than an early one that requires a rushed cross-city transfer.
Keep the party together on paper
Check each guest's status individually. One completed profile does not prove that everyone in a linked group has finished uploading information. Look for mismatched names, an incomplete photo or a missing emergency contact while you still have reliable internet.
Save the boarding documents using the method your line supports. A screenshot can be a useful backup, but it does not replace an original travel document or any document the terminal specifically requires.
If travel plans change
Contact the cruise line or your booking agent promptly if you expect to miss the permitted window. Do not assume a driver, airline or hotel can arrange late boarding on your behalf.
For your own transfer plan, write the terminal name beside the ship name. Large ports can have several terminals, and a map pin labelled only with the port is not precise enough. Recheck departure instructions before leaving because berth assignments can change.
