# Castaway Cay vs CocoCay: compare the island day you want

By Cruise.do · Updated October 17, 2026

The short answer

Both Castaway Cay and CocoCay can provide a beach day without a premium activity purchase. Favor Castaway Cay if its Disney setting and included beach-day options match your priorities; favor CocoCay if its included pool or separately priced attractions are central to your plan. Compare the whole cruise before paying extra just for the island.

| Included starting point | Beaches, lounge chairs, umbrellas, barbecue food | Beaches, chairs, umbrellas, Oasis Lagoon, selected dining |
| Examples of extras | Equipment rentals, cabanas, Port Adventures | Thrill Waterpark, Coco Beach Club, Hideaway Beach |

Disney’s FAQ distinguishes included amenities from rentals and adventures. Royal Caribbean’s FAQ similarly separates its included island day from paid experiences. An image of a cabana or waterpark does not mean access is in your cruise fare. [Disney policy](#source-castaway-included). [Royal Caribbean policy](#source-cococay-cost).

## [For a simple beach day, compare the basics](#beach)

Picture the day before pricing an upgrade. If the plan is to sit in shade, swim, eat lunch and return early, identify where you can do those things with the included amenities. Paying for a premium area may add something you value, but it should solve a specific need.

Give each traveler a say in pace. One person may want hours in the water; another may prefer a short beach visit and time back on board. A good plan can accommodate both without requiring everyone to buy the same optional experience.

Do not score an island only by the number of attractions. Your actual time ashore is limited by the sailing schedule, and every move between activities uses part of that time. A simpler day can be the more satisfying choice for your party.

## [For families, check participation before excitement](#families)

Start with what each child can and wants to do. Before buying an activity, read its current age, height, supervision and participation requirements. A younger child’s alternative matters as much as the older child’s main attraction.

Decide how the adults will share the day if interests differ. A booking that works for one adult and one child may not be the best purchase for the whole cabin. Compare the total for the people who will participate, including any required accompanying adults.

Keep a rest and food plan that does not depend on completing every activity. These are planning suggestions; they do not guarantee access, seating or conditions at a particular time.

## [When is a paid experience worth it?](#extras)

- Name the specific improvement: a desired activity, a particular setting or a service your party will use.
- Write down who needs a ticket and what the price includes.
- Check cancellation terms and what happens if the ship misses the call.
- Compare the total with the other things that money could buy on the same cruise.

Avoid a universal “worth it” verdict. A waterpark day might be the highlight for one family and an unnecessary expense for another. A premium area can also consume money that would make a bigger difference to the cabin, transport or another port.

Use the current booking price rather than an old review’s amount. The useful comparison is your actual cost for your actual party, not the lowest promotional price someone once saw.

## [Do not forget the nights around the island](#cruise)

The island is one part of the holiday. Compare the ship, departure port, number of nights and other calls before choosing a cruise solely to visit it. The [Wish versus Utopia comparison](https://cruise.do/guides/disney-wish-vs-utopia-of-the-seas/) shows a closely matched four-night example; [Treasure versus Star](https://cruise.do/guides/disney-treasure-vs-star-of-the-seas/) compares two different weeklong routes.

Ask the weather-change question: would you still like the cruise if the island call changed? That does not mean predicting a cancellation. It means making sure the rest of the booking has value for you too.

## [Short answers to common questions](#questions)

Do I need to buy a ticket for a basic beach day? Both operators list included island amenities for visiting cruise guests. Paid areas and excursions are separate choices.

Which island is quieter? This guide has no representative crowding data. Choose spaces and timing around your needs instead of relying on an island-wide promise.

Which is cheaper? Compare the whole sailing and your chosen extras. The included beach-day options alone cannot identify the less expensive holiday.
